Fact of the Day - An Unearthly Child

• An Unearthly Child was the first serial of Doctor Who.
• A 'pilot episode' was sent to producer Sydney Newman, who said that the character of the Doctor needed to be toned down.
• The story received many complaints about the theme tune, which was deemed to scary, hoiwever the BBC refused to change it.
• The pilot theme tune contained a thunder crack.
• The third episode, 'The Forest of Fear', set in caveman times, was broadcast 04/12/1963.

Fact of the Day: The Dalek Invasion of Earth - 46 Years Ago

• The Dalek Invasion of Earth was the second story of Season Two of Doctor Who.
• Episode Three was first broadcast 04/12/1964.
• It was the second appearance of the Daleks.
• Also on 4/12, but in 1920, was the date that Kathy Nightengale was transported to by the touch of a Weeping Angel.

Fact of the Day: The Daleks' Masterplan - 45 Years Ago

• The Dalek's Masterplan was a serial of 1965/1966
• It featured William Hartnell as the First Doctor.
• At twelve episodes, it is the longest serial to date.
• Episode Four, 'The Traitors', was broadcast 04/12/1965.

Fact of the Day: Sylvester McCoy

(20th August 1943 -)

Sylvester McCoy was born in Dunoon, Scotland, as Percy James Patrick Kent-Smith. After initially wishing to become a priest, he appeared in The Campbell Road Show as Sylveste McCoy (the 'r' rolled in later). He knew a fellow actor who was auditioning for Doctor Who, so McCoy was persuaded to come along - and got the part.

FACT: McCoy's co-stars, Sohpie Aldred and Anthony Ainley, all of whom appeared in the final story Survival, share a birthday with him.

Fact of the Day: David Agnew

( Graham Williams: 24th May 1945 - 17th August 1990)

David Agnew was a pseudonym for Graham Williams used on episodes City of Death (containing the most-watched episode in the show's history)and The Invasion of Time.

FACT: Williams also saw fit to use a pseudonym for his Season 26 episode The Nightmare Fair, featuring the Celestial Toymaker, and Agnew was ressurrected. However, Doctor Who went on hiatus after Season 25, to be followed with the 14-part story Trial of a Time Lord. Twenty-three years later, The Nightmare Fair was adapted as an audio adventure by Big Finish Productions.

Fact of the Day: Peter Grimwade

(8th June 1942 - 15th May 1990)

Peter Grimwade was the director of the stories Full Circle, Logopolis, Kinda and Earthshock. He also wrote Time-Flight, Mawdryn Undead and Planet of Fire.

FACT: He both introduced and killed Adric, in his first and last episodes directed.
He wrote the following serial with an appearance from Adric, as a vision to persuade the TARDIS crew not to go any further. In reality, this was included in order to maintain the shock of the character's death by giving actor Matthew Waterhouse a billing in the Radio Times!

Peter Grimwade died in 1990 of Leukemia.

Since there won't be much news until around November, I have decided to start a new series, to be posted at 12 of some days, about what happened on those days in Who's history! The first will be posted today, at exactly 12:00 noon...

Fact of the Day: Exclusive Clips

For Series Four, the official website revealed a series of exclusive clips, one for each episode. (Some were not that exclusive though!) For Series Five, they included three per episode, which halfway through became four! For The Pandorica Opens, the Series Five finale, only one arrived.

Fact of the Day - The Sun

When it was announced that Doctor Who would be taking a break in 2010, popular tabloid The Sun went one step further and reported that the show had been axed!

Fact of the Day: Sam Tyler

Sam Tyler of theseires Life on Mars, played by John Simm (the Master!) was named by the writer's daughter. It was only after the completion of the scripts that the production team found out about the inspiration!
